The right candle wick is a crucial component for making your own candles. The cotton wick is particularly suitable for use in candle moulds. The required length of wick is cut off and fixed in the mould. Depending on the mould, the wick is knotted at one or both ends of the mould. An unwaxed wick is suitable for this, as the waxed wicks are rigid and cannot be knotted. The matching metal wick holders are attached to the lower end of the wicks. To do this, the wick is passed through the small hole in the wick holder and clamped in the wick holder with pliers. The wick holder provides greater stability and is particularly suitable for use in candle jars or similar containers. For easy application, the wick is first fixed in the centre of the base of the jar with a few drops of wax under the wick holder and the wick is aligned vertically. The container is then filled with wax. The candle wicks burn evenly without producing a lot of soot. They also have the advantage that the wicks can be burnt from both directions.
